Meetings with Political Parties
Officers of the Association have arranged a series of meeting with representatives from the political parties. The purpose of the meetings to ascertain their views on the restoration of public service pay under the Haddington Road Agreement. So far, meetings have been held with the Labour Party and Sinn Fein, with planned meetings with Fianna Fail, Fine Gael and some of the Independents.

AHCPS Website
Our website has been revised and updated. Some of the changes include: a new blog on the home screen, a scrolling banner across the top of the front page and a new Gallery section for photographs. We have also reviewed all links to ensure that they are working properly.

Dignity at Work
The Anti-Bullying, Harassment and Sexual Harassment policy for the Civil Service, has been fully revised. The document is titled “Dignity at Work”. It is still in draft format, and will be available from here when finalised and published.

Future Union Organisation
A series of exploratory meetings have been held with the CPSU, PSEU, Impact and the VOA, attended by officials, staff and members of the Executive. Discussions have centred on the possibility of sharing services, and the possibility of a new entity, representing staff throughout the civil and public service. The position of the Association is that such a new entity should provide a better organisation in terms of service and representation for its members and should be an improvement on that delivered by each of the existing organisations. Otherwise it shouldn’t even be considered. Talks are at a very early stage in the process.

Civil Service Shared Services
The General Secretary met with representatives from PeoplePoint, in order to express our concerns with service issues. Both sides have agreed to a process of continuous engagement.

Civil Service Renewal
The Association made a submission as part of this process. In response to its publications, we expressed disappointment at the failure to appoint a Head of the Civil Service, and concern at the extent of open recruitment and the failure to establish a proper reward mechanism for good staff. The full document can be found here.

Appointment of Assistant General Secretary
We are pleased to announce that the Executive Committee, following a recent publicly advertised competition, has appointed Mr Billy Thompson to the position of Assistant General Secretary with the Association. Billy will take up duty with the Association in February 2015.
