Cir. 15/2014

Dear Branch Secretary

The AHCPS Income Continuance Plan is a very important product that we offer to members.

As you are aware the Scheme provides members with a replacement income if their income drops or stops due to ill health. This is particularly important in the context of the revised sick leave arrangements. The rate is currently 0.65% of salary. The rate of 0.65%, which was set in 2009, has now been reviewed for a further five-year period commencing on the 1st of October 2014. Two issues impacted on the rate:

1. The claims history, and;

2. The revised sick leave arrangements

I am very pleased to report that the Association has negotiated a revised rate of 0.60% for the next five years with New Ireland Assurance. This compares with a rate of 0.99% for CPSU and 0.83% for PSEU members. Tax relief is also available on the revised rate of 0.60% so the nett cost is considerably lower. Cornmarket will continue to administer the scheme. This is an excellent outcome – at a time when the rates are increasing for other Unions, ours will be decreasing.

Existing members of the scheme do not need to do anything as salary sections will be informed of the rate change before the 1st of October.

In addition Cornmarket are offering the additional benefits of a free Tax Advisory service for  claimants and the offer of a free Cancer awareness programme for all members ( Breast/  Testicular- Prostate or Skin Cancer , the exact programme to be agreed by the Association).

There are currently 1,752 members in the Plan and 29 members claiming from the Plan.

The Association would like encourage as many members as possible to avail of the Income Continuance Plan particularly given the reduction in cost. An application form to enable members to join is available here.

It has also come to our attention that a number of members (promoted from the PSEU) may still be members of the PSEU Income Continuance Scheme. It is very important that those members transfer immediately to the AHCPS Income Continuance Plan. A transfer form is available here. There is every chance that members who have not transferred will not be covered in the event of illness.

Please circulate this email to all members.

This circular will also be placed on the Association’s website
