‘Preparing for PO’ – A Career Development Seminar for Assistant Principal Officers

During 2019, the Association will hold a number of career development events for members who are interested in progressing their career within the Civil and Public Service. The first event will be a seminar for members at Assistant Principal grade who wish to progress to Principal Officer level. The seminar will take place on the following dates:

Thursday 21st March – at the Morrison Hotel, Lower Ormond Quay, Dublin 1.

Tuesday 26th March – at the Morrison Hotel, Lower Ormond Quay, Dublin 1.

Thursday 28th March – at the Absolute Hotel, Sir Harry’s Mall, Limerick

Each event will commence at 9.30 and finish at lunchtime and a light lunch will be provided. The event is free to AHCPS members.

The seminars will be facilitated by Mr. Bryan Andrews, former Chief Executive of the Public Appointments Service and will also feature guest speakers at Principal Officer and Assistant Secretary level.

Participants at each event will be able to:

  • Consider whether or not a Principal Officer opportunity is right for them.
  • Hear expert advice on the selection process and how to best present their case.
  • Understand the purpose of Psychometric Questionnaires and Other Assessment Tools.
  • Hear from recent appointees about making the move to PO.
  • Hear what Management Boards expect of Principal Officers.
